Toni Rogers Steen, age 68, departed this life on December 20, 2014 at a hospital in Dallas after a recent sudden illness. Born in Oklahoma City OK on August 28, 1946, Toni was a lifelong Dallas resident. She attended The Hockaday School prior to transferring to Thomas Jefferson High School, where she graduated in 1964. With her vivacious, engaging personality, Toni endeared herself to everyone she met. She was an exuberant extrovert whose razor-sharp wit left everyone laughing. Although she was petite in stature, she had an unforgettable, dazzling presence. Always charming and glamourous, when Toni entered a room, she immediately became the center of attention. Toni was inherently high-spirited and fun-loving, and she always wanted everyone around her to be entertained and happy. She was the quintessential hostess. Her penchant for everything bold, colorful and exotic manifested itself in her signature taste in décor and fashion. Part of her mystique stemmed from her ability to wear flamboyant attire with flair and aplomb. Over the decades Toni’s interests were diverse, ranging from backgammon to ballroom dancing. Whatever her avocation at the time, she ranked among the best. Effortlessly, she could calculate odds in her head at the game table or tango on the dance floor like a pro. Most recently, Toni devoted her time exclusively to competing in skeet tournaments and promoting the sport. As a member of the All-American Skeet Team, she was among the top twenty skeet shooters in the nation. She also sponsored the annual Toni Rogers Skeet Extravaganza in San Antonio. Toni holds the distinction of being the first and only female member of the Board of Directors of the Dallas Gun Club in its roughly 75-year history. Toni also supported a variety of charities. Her friends always knew that they could count on her to attend their fund-raisers and charity balls. Toni was predeceased by her father, Wesley G. Rogers, and her brother-in-law, Donald A. Byrd. She is survived by her devoted husband, Allen R. Steen, step-daughter Pamela L. Negri and her husband, Chris, of Portland OR, step-daughter Linda S. Mayes of Bedminister PA, step-son William A. Steen and his wife, Lori, of Frisco TX, and three step-grandchildren. Toni also is survived by her mother and step-father, Anita R. and Dan E. Kamperman of Dallas, sister Carol W. Byrd of Hughes County OK, two nephews and their wives and children. Allen would like to recognize and especially thank Johnny Mercado and Blanca Martinez for their tireless, loving care of Toni during her courageous battle with her illness during the last few months of her life. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Sparkman/Hillcrest, 7405 W Northwest Hwy, Dallas TX 75225. The service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Sparkman/Hillcrest. Toni will be interred in the family’s plot at the cemetery in Holdenville OK. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations either to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St, Dallas TX 75219-3924, Operation Kindness, 3201 Earhart Dr, Carrollton TX 75006-5025, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
