Timothy Robert McCormick was born in Chicago, IL May 20, 1948 and passed away in Dallas, TX on Sunday, April 16, 2023. The Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday April 24, 2023 at St. Rita Catholic Church, 12521 Inwood Rd. Dallas, TX 75244. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Robin McCormick, daughter Erin Lundie (Frank), son Devlin McCormick (Kim) and daughter Lesley Ricketts (David); grandchildren Claire, Adelaide, Graham, Aidan, Kirby and Leah; his brothers Tom (Sue) and Jim (Yolanda) sisters Sharon Sullivan, Janet Maher (John), Mary Lynn Barnard (Charlie), and Maureen Hoofard (Ron). He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Frances McCormick, his sister Susan, and brothers John and Brian.
Tim and his family moved to Dallas as he began his freshman year at Jesuit College Preparatory School. He briefly attended the University of Texas in Austin before enlisting in the Army. He served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam in the 1st Cavalry Division. While in Vietnam, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, twice, the Bronze Star, twice, a Purple Heart, as well as several Air Medals and two Army Commendation Medals with Valor device.
After his service in the army, Tim completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas. From there he earned his Juris Doctor at SMU with honors. He joined the trial department at the law firm of Thompson & Knight where he put his strong argumentativeness to good use. He was fortunate to spend his entire legal career at Thompson & Knight, first as an associate, then as a partner, doing what he loved and serving as a mentor to many.
Tim generously shared his wisdom and knowledge whenever asked (and sometimes without being asked). He leaves a legacy of eternal optimism (as well as a large collection of Life is Good t-shirts), an ability to work through any problem, and his devotion to and great love for his entire (rather large) family. Tim was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family, who loves him dearly. He was truly selfless and his passing leaves an unfillable gap in the hearts of those who loved him. He was one of a kind, or as he would say “not too shabby.”
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Memory of Timothy Robert McCormick to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
