Sharon Ligon Troy, 84, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on November 29, 2022, surrounded by loving family. Sharon was born September 29, 1938, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Wister Henry Ligon and Trudy Lundergan Ligon. The eldest of three children, Sharon grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, and attended Vanderbilt University (Class of 1960). Sharon was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, serving as President her senior year. It was in Nashville at the age of 13 that she met the love of her life, Edward R. “Ted” Troy. They married on June 11, 1960, and moved to Dallas in 1961.
During their 58-year marriage, Sharon and Ted raised four children: Kathleen, Kevin, Julie and Stephanie. Although free time was scarce for many years, Sharon participated in outside pursuits that were important to her. She was a founding member of the Richardson Footnotes Book Review Club in 1969 and joined the Canyon Creek North Garden Club in 1988 and remained an active member in both organizations. Sharon also co-founded the Collin County A&M Mothers Club in 1981 and it is still going strong today.
Among Sharon’s other passions were exploring the world on her many wonderful trips with Ted; spending summers together in the beautiful mountains of Crested Butte, Colorado, and cheering on their favorite sports teams. Sharon and Ted were avid Dallas Mavericks fans. Having been season ticket holders since the inaugural season in 1980, they were recognized by the franchise during a game in February 2015.
Sharon was a loving, devoted wife who also enthusiastically embraced being a mom, supporting her children in every activity in which they participated growing up. Her relationship with her children remained close throughout her life and they turned to her for encouragement and advice even as adults with families of their own.
Known affectionately as Ammie by her ten grandchildren, she was a proud and involved grandmother who never missed a play, concert, performance, sporting event or any chance to cheer them on.
Sharon will be greatly missed by a large group of wonderful life-long friends. Her friendships were a continuing source of joy to her and she cherished them all. A generous, beautiful, and faithful person, Sharon focused on the needs of others even in her final days.
Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ted. She is survived by her loving children: Kathleen Troy Scott (Tom), Kevin Troy (Lisa), Julie Troy Shannon (Rick), and Stephanie Troy Kappel (Jason); her treasured grandchildren: Caroline, Allison, and Shannon Scott; Savannah and Owen Troy; RJ (Brittany), Kyle, and Molly Shannon; Mallory and Tyler Kappel; and precious great-grandson, Joseph Edward Shannon.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 16th, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 17th, at 10:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, followed by a reception at Christ the King Parish Center.
