Scott Shaw Calhoun was born in Denton, Texas on May 28, 1949 and died in Dallas, Texas on July 12, 2024, from pulmonary fibrosis. His parents, James C. Calhoun and Dorothy Shaw Calhoun predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Shelly K. Mathis, son Sean Archer Calhoun (spouse Caitlin Marquis), sister Kerry Calhoun Kirby (spouse Tom Kirby), brother Kim Calhoun (spouse Cody Calhoun), nieces Shannon Stewart, Bess Calhoun Bonnet (spouse Francis Bonnet), and Abby Calhoun, and stepdaughters Christi Mathis Kobald, and Elizabeth Elaine Mathis, numerous grand nieces and nephews, and his beloved doggies Sophia, Bella and Jolene.
Scott was passionate about art, and was an accomplished abstract artist, although his primary career was in construction cost control and project management. Seeing art at a museum with Scott was an amazing experience. He could talk in depth about the artist bringing their work to life.
Scott was proud of his Scottish heritage. He discovered with joy that his ancestors came from the Isle of Skye near the Talisker Distillery and would wear his clan’s tartan tie or vest on festive occasions.
Scott was a key leader in the organizing of the PF Warriors, an international pulmonary fibrosis support group. He was enthusiastic about helping newly diagnosed patients and spent a great deal of time answering questions from patients all around the world. He loved and deeply respected his extensive medical team and was a compliant patient. Scott fought pulmonary fibrosis bravely for ten years until an acute exacerbation of the disease took his life. Donations to this organization can be made at www.PFWarriors.com.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas Ave. at Colgate Ave., August 10, 2024, 4:00 pm in the Saint Michael Chapel.
