Scott Braaten, 28, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, in Dallas, TX. He was born March 15, 1995, in Oklahoma City, OK to David and Mikel Ann Braaten. He grew up living with his parents in Moscow, Barcelona, London, and Luxembourg and then settled in Washington, DC at the beginning of high school. He graduated from the Washington International School in Washington, DC in 2013. He was studying and working in the field of computer science at the time of his death, and his coursework included attendance at various universities including the University of California San Diego. He had a keen curiosity and interest in philosophy, computer programming and was most recently involved in projects relating to artificial intelligence. Throughout his life he greatly appreciated art and enjoyed many different genres of music, including electronic and new age as well as classical pieces. He was an extensive writer and filled up notebook after notebook of his thoughts and analyses of both the greater meaning of life and the day-to-day details that we all deal with.
Scott is survived by his parents, David and Mikel Ann of Luxembourg; his grandparents, Earl and Lisa Braaten of Oklahoma City; aunts and uncles Jill and Kurt Stanze, Douglas Braaten and Steven Chua, Diane and Doug Galliart, Michael Braaten, David Howenstine, and Devin Howenstine and Lavonda Forte; and cousins Eric Janero, Lindsay Janero, Megan Janero and her partner Aaron Sousa, Evan Braaten, Jessica Galliart and George Chua Braaten.
Services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX.
Scott was truly a third culture child with his international childhood, and his family and friends reside in many localities in the US and other countries. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the treatment of addiction or homelessness in your local communities.
