Samuel Bert Jr.

Samuel Bert, Jr., 88 years old, passed away on December 18, 2024, in Richardson, Texas. Sam was born in Dallas, Texas, on January 19, 1936, on his dad’s birthday, to Samuel Bert, Sr., and Mary Zabbia Bert. He graduated from Jesuit High School, and attended Notre Dame until illness forced him to return to Dallas, where he graduated from SMU in 1958.

Sam did the accounting for his dad’s businesses located at Fair Park, including the Roller Skating Rink where Sam played the organ for the skaters. He loved music and played the piano and organ. He and his brother, Nick Bert, Sr., jointly operated seven food concession stands under Bert Concessions, Inc., during the State Fair of Texas that their dad started in 1936.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Elena Lowry, his brother Nick Bert, Sr., and brother-in-law Bruce Lowry.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie Saelens Bert, his children Samuel Bert III (Dana), Daniel Bert (Mandy), Michael, and Cheryl (Scott) Carmichael; his stepchildren (Mark), Steve (Lisa), and Chad (Brandy) Ulrich; sisters-in-law Vera Bert, Joan Baxter, Mary White, Teri Bloom and brothers-in-law Rick Saelens, Donald Saelens and David Saelens; thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., on January 7, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 South Jupiter Rd., Richardson, Texas 75081, Reverend Monsignor Milam Joseph officiating with Deacon Timothy Vineyard. Visitation is at 12:00 p.m., and Rosary at 1:00 p.m. Private family committal will be January 8, 2025.
