He was educated in the Houston Public Schools.
Sammie worked at Caldwell Zoo in Tyler, Texas for 17 years as a maintenance man, and he later worked at Marshall Independent School District where he retired.
On September 5, 1992 he married Phyllis in Tyler, Texas and they moved to Dallas where they have resided for the last 2 years.
Sammie entered into eternal rest on March 4, 2023 at 8:30 pm.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Phyllis, stepchildren; Julia Williams, Tory Martin, sisters; Judy (Royce III), Joyce (Bobby) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
