Proceeded in death by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Evelyn Cobb, his parents and two brothers, most notably his twin brother Joe Alvin Cobb. He is survived by his three children, Donald Cobb, Anna Yeakley, (Mark Yeakley) Dan Cobb, (Dana Cobb) five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He enlisted in the US Army in 1951 and served in the 187th Army Airborne infantry during the Korean conflict. After the service he worked for Douglas Aircraft as an electronics lab technician, later as a sales technician for an X-ray equipment company and as an electrician, retiring from work altogether in the late 80’s.
Al, as he was known, was a gentle soul, very likable, lighthearted man of few words. He was always on the move piddling around his lake property in East Texas, or volunteering his time helping a neighbor, or local charity food bank, Meals on Wheels, and just about anything he could be of service with. He enjoyed nature, animals, boating, and he was very much into physical fitness. He ran every day, logging three to seven miles a day when he could. Even in his older age he made a point of taking daily walks.
Al was a committed Christian, and an active church member of the first United Methodist Church. He was involved in the Methodist Men’s group, taught Sunday school classes; volunteered his time, money and efforts to many worthy causes and ministries.
He was an eager “doer” and a helper of others, often recognizing something you needed even before you knew it yourself. He was the type of man you could count on to help you with anything, and he took the time to concern himself with the welfare of others.
