Roger R. Arel

He was born in New Britain, CT on July 9, 1940. Roger graduated from New Britain High School, and then attended technical school. He was also in the Army Reserves.

Roger was married to Dorothy (Frick) Arel for 58 years. They had a beautiful marriage until her passing on Oct. 22, 2021. He missed her dearly after she passed, and his family is comforted by the fact that he is back with her now.

As much as he loved Connecticut and it was difficult to leave, he moved his wife and daughters to Plano, Texas in 1978 because he saw the opportunities there. While his girls thought that they would be riding horses to school on dirt roads when he announced the move, everyone fell in love with Texas immediately. He went on to have a successful career in sales and made many dear friends in Texas. Roger was known for being a great mentor to the people that he worked with, and was very proud to see them advance in their careers.

Roger and Dorothy loved to travel and went on many cruises after they retired. Roger also had several hobbies, but some of his favorites were fly fishing in Colorado, which he did into his 80’s, and riding his motorcycle until he was 70 years old. Above all else, Roger loved his family. He was a loving husband to Dorothy, an amazing father to his daughters, and a proud grandfather to his grandsons. They all have so many beautiful memories with him and will miss him dearly.

Roger is survived by his daughter, Audrey Duncan; his daughter Cindy Coats and her husband, Jeff; his grandchildren Brandon McDonnell, Nicholas McDonnell, and Dylan Duncan; his sister Judy Grasso and her husband, Lou; his brother William Arel and his wife Judy; his sister Janice Melechinsky and her husband Mark; and his brother George Arel.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 PM, October 21, 2024, at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 President George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, TX 75252.
