Robert William Campbell, of Dallas, TX passed away November 19, 2016. Known as “Bob” Campbell, he was born April 26, 1936 in Parkersburg, WV. During his school years, he had paper routes and was a proud drum line member in the Parkersburg High School Big Red Band. Following graduation from high school, he enrolled at West Virginia University where he studied engineering. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy through the NAVCAD program, eventually serving as a Seabee. He met the love of his life and future wife, Judith Elaine Barnes, while stationed in Pensacola, Florida. They married following his discharge from the Navy. Judy saw to it that Bob traveled, had a great social life and lovely homes with the most recent being Highland Springs which has a distinctive Scottish ring to it.
Bob earned Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from The University of West Florida. During his career, he worked with Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Company, Monongahela Power Company, Daniel’s Construction, Monsanto, M.W. Kellogg, and S&B Engineers and Constructors.
He and Judy raised three children and lived in West Virginia, Florida, and Alabama before finally settling in their adopted home state of Texas in 1975. Coming from the Mountaineer state of West Virginia, he took becoming a Texan seriously with Cowboy boots and Hat.
Bob was a member of The Worship Place in Sun City, TX. He was also a member of the Ben Hur Shrine temple in Austin, TX and the Masonic Lodge in Gulf Breeze, FL.
Bob loved following Mountaineer and Longhorn football. He enjoyed genealogy and spent countless hours researching and documenting family history. Bob and Judy enjoyed bringing the family together at home and for vacations, including Florida beaches, ski trips, and an amazing trip to Scotland. Bob took great pride in designing, landscaping, and maintaining his lawns, taking at least one “Yard of the Month” honors in Nassau Bay, Texas. He was well known for his elaborate outdoor Christmas light displays on his homes and he worked hard with groups in Sun City to provide light displays for the entrance to the neighborhood. Bob was a true gentleman and wonderful family man.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert George and Mary Eloise Smith Campbell.
Bob is survived by his wife Judith Elaine Barnes Campbell, son Robert Carlton Campbell and wife Nancy Purdy (grandchildren Robert John Campbell and Taylor Ann Campbell), son Kevin William Campbell and husband Derek McDonald (grandchildren Vladyk Campbell Atkins, Dylan John McDonald, Cole Derek McDonald, Maya Etta McDonald, Georgia Ray McDonald), daughter Heather Barnes Shaw and husband David Shaw (grandchildren James Chase Riggins, Riley Campbell Riggins, Christopher Michael Shaw, and Ryan Austin Shaw), sister Mary Louise Campbell and Phil Case Jr., sister Evelyn Jean Campbell Breedlove, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial are scheduled for December 3, 2016 at 12:00 PM at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas.
