Robert Kalman Bishop

Robert Kalman Bishop, 78, of Mesquite, TX , went to home to be with the Lord on September 9, 2020 after a complication during his battle with Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia. He was born in Miami, FL on Jan. 31, 1942.

Bob was very proud that he served his country five years in the Army on various posts from 1960-1965. He graduated from Atherton High School in Louisville, KY, where Bob was known as "Butch" and received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY.

He is survived by the love of his life, Janet Bishop, who was by his side when he died. She loved him to the moon and back and will miss all the adventures they didn’t get to have.

Bob’s career as a Pharmacist spanned over 50 years working in multiple hospitals, nursing homes, retail stores, cancer centers, and compounding pharmacies. He was board-certified in Kentucky and Texas, certified as a compounding pharmacist and completed a residency at UCLA in geriatrics. He was also a certified Clinical Nutrition Instructor who lived what he taught and was an Adjunct Professor at Eastfield College.

He was a member of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Rho Chi Society Alpha Xi Chapter (Pharmacy Honor Society), Sigma Nu Fraternity at University of Kentucky. He was also a Republican Precinct Chair, Vice-President of Red Texas Forum, he achieved a red belt (brown belt) in Korean Tang Soo Do Moo Kwan Federation, one belt below black belt, and a proud member of the NRA.

He was a committed man of faith in Jesus Christ and was an elder in his church, The Park Christian Community Church. He had a big heart for the homeless and underprivileged in Dallas County. He worked with Bread of Life Ministries for many years serving the homeless and ministering in prisons and hospitals. Another part of his ministry was teaching healthy eating and lifestyle changes that were Biblically based. He held many classes in local churches.

Bob was passionate about healthy eating, biking at White Rock Lake, hiking, tennis, golf, skiing, and travel. He and Janet were often off on various travel adventures to Hawaii, St. Kitts, Colorado, California, Maine, Arkansas, or Kentucky. Friends and family called him “Butch” when he was growing up. Bob liked fast sexy cars, never missed a Cowboys game, and loved his Kentucky Wildcats!

Bob was an amazing God-centered man, who loved his family, the United States of America and Texas. He was a patriot and servant leader.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Lesa McClung from Ponca City, OK and son Bradley Bishop from St. Louis, MO, six grandchildren Aimee (and Chris) Vaughan, Nissi (and Joel) Chiasson, Isaac McClung, Shalom McClung, Zachariah Bishop, and Zoe Bishop and five great grandchildren, Keira, Kimber, Kaden, Everlee and Kai.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Linker Bishop and Francis Taylor Bishop and his brother Tony Bishop.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 from 5-8pm at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 11am at The Park Christian Community Church.
