He was born in Hershey, PA on February 3, 1923 to Walter and Grace Sanford Jefferies. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech, class of 1944. He served as a Lt. in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. Following his service in the Army he worked with Ingersoll-Rand Company in California, Saudi Arabia and Texas. He also was the Division Manager for Crescent Machinery Company in Dallas, TX. Richard was the head usher for Christ the King Catholic Church 5:30 pm Saturday Mass for over 26 years. Richard authored a book called “Beyond The Clouds” in honor of his brother Matt Jefferies who constructed for Hollywood the Starship Enterprise in the long time running series “Star Trek”.
He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife Tina Jefferies of Dallas, TX; sons Richard Jefferies Jr and Robert Jefferies; daughters Jennifer Lazenby, Jessica Gambino Janine Harris and Julia Taylor; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sisters in law Mary Ann Jefferies and Margarette Jefferies.
The family will receive friends at 7:00 pm on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX 75225 with a Rosary to start at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, TX 75225 with Msgr. Donald Zimmerman, celebrant. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church Organ Fund.
