Rex graduated from Andrews High School and then honorably served our country in the Navy. He received a BA in Math and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University and then worked his entire career with Westinghouse Electric Corporation until he retired in 1994 as District Manager. Among his career highlights was the sale of the nuclear reactors for the first commercial nuclear power plant in Glen Rose, Texas. He served as an officer and member of the Management Committee of the WCZ Consortium which was responsible for a $750 million, turn-key power plant located just north of Bryan-College Station. Rex served on the founding committee and as an officer of the Texas Tech Electrical Engineering Association and on the Texas Tech Electrical Engineering Industrial Advisory Committee. He was active in IEEE and served in various Chapter and Section positions including Chairman of the 3,000 member Dallas Section.
After retiring from Westinghouse, he went onto his 2nd career on the golf course. His passion of the sport was 2nd only to his family (especially with the addition of the grands and great grands). He enjoyed reading, Crossword puzzles and researching genealogy.
He and Addie were members of All Saints Catholic Church where he was actively involved in the Knights of Columbus, Men’s Club, Empty Nesters, Bridge Group and as an Usher.
Rex is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Addie, daughters Janice Schoonover (Tina) of Richmond, Cindy Britain (Bill) of Richardson, and Cheryl Phillips of Plano, grandchildren Michele Stephens (husband Paul) and their children Preston and Reese of New Braunfels, Blake Britain (Kallie) of Royse City, and Jenna Foster (husband Justin) and their daughter Julia of Richmond. Rex is also survived by his sister Modena Barlow, brothers Jim Phillips and Gene Muse, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Rex loved life (and any opportunity for a prank). He made many friends over his lifetime and the family appreciates all of those who came to visit him over the past several months. We also extend our sincerest thanks to all the caregivers that walked the journey with us.
