Raymond was born October 7, 1940, to the late Earnest Moore, Sr. and Maggie Moore in Bryan, Texas. He accepted Christ at an early age at First United Methodist Church in Bryan-College Station, Texas. Always acknowledging Christ as the head of his life and graduating from Kemp High School, he attended Prairie View A & M College in Prairie View, Texas where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.
After leaving Prairie View, he ventured on to Waxahachie, Texas where he was employed as a teacher at Turner High School and later to Camp Gary Job Corps Center, in San Marcos, Texas.
Raymond was still not tired of school yet. Thus, he decided to return to his old Alma Mater to pursue his Master’s Degree in Education. Upon completion of his degree, he matriculated to Dallas, Texas and began his career as a teacher in the Dallas Independent School District where he remained for 35 years and worked at various campuses including Sunset, Skyline and Carter High Schools. He was also a one of a kind Counselor at Carter High School (Cowboy Land). The staff and students loved him tremendously and he enjoyed working with students to obtain a high school diploma and sending them off to various colleges with a scholarship to pursue a higher education. After his retirement from DISD, he continued to work as a Bus Driver and a Monitor part-time until December 31, 2023.
During his time at Carter, he decided it was time for him to settle down and start a new life. While asking God, acknowledging him and asking him to send him a help mate, he met the LOVE of his life, Miss Barbie Peel McDade at Community United Methodist Church and they were happily married on November 21,1998 and the rest is history.
Raymond was a very compassionate person and enjoyed all of his jobs, reading his bible, going to church, singing in the choir, talking on the phone, playing dominoes, bingo, working in his yard, playing and coached tennis and watching sports. One of his favorite sayings when he was asked if he wanted ice cream, barbecue and any of his FAVORITE food was: LET’S GET IT ON!!!
He was always a gentleman in all aspects of his life with a passion to help people succeed and took every opportunity to serve his family and community. Raymond not only took care of his immediate family, but he also took care of his nieces and nephew, the Calhoun’s in their time of need. In his transitioning from Earth to Glory, Raymond leaves a lot of precious memories, a life well-lived and we will all miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings and one son. His Legacy will continue with his precious wife, Barbie, two step-daughters, Angela Lewis of Desoto, TX and Felicia McDade of Atlanta, GA, a special God Daughter, Patricia McKnight-Smith, special nieces, nephew, other relatives and a host of friends including Obie Ardis.
