Being a proud graduate of Moore High School, in Waco, Texas, Ray’s thirst for knowledge continued throughout his life. In 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served honorably for four years. This experience not only enable him to explore the world, but it also shaped his disciplined and dedicated approach to life.
Ray dedicated his life to serving his country, his community, and his family with unwavering love and commitment. At an early age in life, Ray confessed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and continued in his walk of faith until he was called home to be with the Lord on June 20, 2024.
Blessed with a loving marriage of 66 years to his sweetheart, Betty Jo Paul. This union, celebrated on August 25, 1957, was a testament of their enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised five sons and cherished their grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Ray and Betty’s home was always filled with warmth and laughter and an open door for family and friends.
Ray found joy in attending church, participating in Bible study groups, and volunteering for various ministries. He was an avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and found great joy in spending time with his family, especially during family gatherings and celebrations.
A man of deep faith, Ray was an Elder at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, where he served diligently for over 40 years. Elder Paul’s dedication to serving others and making a positive impact on his community was evident in every aspect of his life. Elder Paul’s faith was the cornerstone of his life as he served whole-heartedly in various ministries.
Elder Paul is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son-Donald Ray McDade Sr., his grandson-Donald Ray McDade Jr., two brothers: Samuel Paul and John C. Paul, two sisters: Juanita Freeman and Marie Thomas.
Ray leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service. He is survived by one daughter-Margaret “Cassandra” Bailey-Davis (Oliver) of Pheonix, AZ and six sons, Howard Nickles (Diane) of Waco, TX, Maurice Paul Sr., Ray Willard Paul Jr., Herbert Baronton Paul, Gregory Bernard Paul, and Kevin Jay Paul, his sister-Imogene Jones, seventeen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
