Charles ‘Ray” Hassell, Sr. Ray came to Texas from Las Vegas, NV to visit family and friends with his wife and to celebrate 28 years of marriage when he became ill and entered the hospital. After a visit with his wife, daughter and sisters Ray closed his mischievous blue eyes March 26, 2010 and went to sleep to wake up with his Lord and Savior. Ray was born December 29, 1933 in Shreveport, LA to Robert A. Hassell and Trudy Rich Hassell. Ray, a graduate of Southern Methodist University, spent most his working life as a registered professional engineer for the City of Dallas. After retiring and finding retirement boring, he moved to Las Vegas to work for Nevada Power. Ray loved fishing, dancing, and traveling in his motor home with his wife across the United States. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his son Charles Ray Hassell, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Louise Hassell, daughters Diane Hassell and Christina Dwyer; sons Scott and Craig Swanson; four grandchildren, BreAna Lightner, Marcus and Joshua Dwyer, Lane Swanson; and sisters and brothers-in-law Joan and Roddy Simpson and Liz and Winkie Turner as well as four nephews and a niece. Visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Hwy. Chapel, Rev.
