Living her best life, Pat Hefner passed away in her home surrounded by loved ones after battling cancer at age 73. Born in Ft. Madison, Iowa, the third of 7 children. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School.
She became an RN, enjoyed nursing, and settled in Dallas in the ’70s. In 1978 Pat took on a life-changing opportunity and adopted her daughter, Erica Hefner of Dallas. She would later meet her husband of 41 years, Richard while playing softball for St. Pius the X.
Pat was a caring person who actively volunteered in her community. Leading girl scouts for her daughter, coaching softball, directing athletic programs, and driving the bus at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic School. She volunteered for her grandson’s scouting adventures and the lady’s guild at St. Philip Catholic Church in the Pleasant Grove area. She recently received “Volunteer of the Year” at Equest Equine Therapy Center.
After retiring from Baylor Hospital - BUMC - Dallas, she had an active life gardening and traveling. She enjoyed her backyard and patio, calling it her “therapy.” She traveled to many places throughout her life, Alaska, Ireland, New Hampshire, Mackinac Islands, Mt. Rushmore, Washington DC, and Arkansas.
She could repeatedly be heard saying, “leave things better than the way you found them,” and yes, she sure did!
Pat is survived by her husband, Richard Hefner, daughter Erica Hefner, grandson Zane Hefner,
sisters Judy Biogiotti and Mary Whitfield, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Marena and Norman Krieger, and her siblings, Bill Krieger, Jim Krieger, Betty Craeger, and Nancy Krieger.
Please join the family in remembering Pat's adventurous life; Wednesday, December 7, visitation from 6-7:30pm, rosary at 7:30pm, Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home, 10501 Garland Road in Dallas. A celebratory mass will be held at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Pleasant Grove (8131 Military Parkway in Dallas) on Friday, December 9 at 10am. After mass, the family would love everyone to come to Circle Grill for fellowship, conversation, and good food from 11am-1pm (3701 N. Buckner Blvd., Dallas).
