Nancy Marie Johnson Newhouse was born December 28, 1950, in Hallsville, Texas, to parents Ennis Earl Johnson and Rubertha Taylor Johnson, who both preceded her in her homegoing. Nancy graduated from Hallsville High School in 1969, after which she attended the University of Houston, having earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts.
After graduating from the University of Houston, she married her longtime sweetheart, Robert Newhouse, Jr., whom she met when she was 12 years old and remained by his side until his homegoing. Nancy was a successful businesswoman, having owned a beauty salon and working in the financial industry. Nancy spent the rest of her career in Richardson ISD as a substitute teacher, tutor, mentor, and community liaison, where she was often referred to as “Mama Newhouse.” Upon completing her tenure with Richardson ISD in 2013, she continued to help and mentor students within the greater Dallas Community. While enjoying her retirement, her passion was being “Nana” to all her grandchildren, which was her favorite role!
As the Matriarch of her family, Nancy was anchored by her love for her family and ever-expanding community. With an innate ability to help anyone in need, befriending a stranger, or providing a place of solace, her own home was often referred to as “Hotel Newhouse”. She was an adventurer at heart, a risk taker, and exuded joy in her life. She loved to travel, she LOVED to shop, and she adored her grandbabies. She smiled with a light in her eyes that will forever be remembered by those who knew her. Words will inevitably be unable to properly and adequately depict the “presence” that she was and the impact she had on countless others. To know her was to love her and by that, creating a permanent place in your heart to have her memory live on forever.
Forever cherishing her memory are two sons, Roddrick Newhouse (Cicily) and Reginald Newhouse (Mary Helen); twin daughters, Dawnyel Newhouse and Shawntel Coy (Eugene); great niece, Camisha Parrish. Her five lovely grandchildren, Cailyn Newhouse, Camryn Newhouse, Kennedi Coy, Kase Coy, and Lincoln Newhouse.
Siblings who preceded her in death are AJ Johnson, Eva Lea Glover, Birlee Fields, and Rosie Nell Russell. She is survived by siblings Jesse Johnson, Mae Ease “Opal” Mills, Ennis Johnson, Jessie Runels, Gertrude “Gertie” Horton (Robert), and James Johnson. And a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Nancy will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225. A Celebration of Life will occur Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at The Heights Church, 201 W Renner Rd, Richardson, TX 75080.
