Michael Shane Rosen was born April 21, 1950 to Ruth Witebsky Rosen and Nathan Rosen of Dallas, Texas. He lived his life in service to others, caring for his family and friends in their times of need. He worked in the family’s grocery store, Nathan’s, on Samuel Boulevard, until he sold the store in the mid 1980s. Michael’s closest relationship was with his twin sister, Susan Deborah Rosen, of blessed memory. They were inseparable most of their lives. When his mother, affectionately known to the community as “Ruthie,” was unable to live without assistance, Michael Rosen moved in with her, providing loving care until her death in 2012. Michael enjoyed a long career outside of his family business. He worked as a trader on the Chicago Stock Exchange before leaving to work for MBNA America Bank, now Bank of America, in marketing and sales and personnel management. After working there for over a decade, he transitioned to Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services, where he ultimately finished his career in the human resources department. Michael Rosen retired to Hilo, Hawaii where he fulfilled his lifelong dream of buying a farm and harvesting avocados, oranges, coconuts, lemons and other Hawaiian produce. He is survived by his brother, Philip Eugene Rosen, sister Nancy Ellen Huckle, niece, Lauren Beth Johnson, nephew, Brian Andrew Rosen, and niece Shayna Lynn Sanborn (Jeff), their children, many cousins, and life-long friends, all of whom loved him deeply. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and sisters Susan and Linda Joan Rosen. Funeral services are graveside only at Shearith Israel Cemetery at noon on Tuesday, January 19. In lieu of flowers and food, the family welcomes donations in Michael’s honor to the American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross.
