Michael Rex Jones

Michael Rex Jones, 67, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014, unexpectedly. Michael was born in Commerce, Texas on November 7, 1946 to William Morris and Minna Veda (Rex) Jones. He married the love of his life, Debra Servati Kennedy, in 1997.

He grew up in Eastland where he graduated from high school in 1964. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Educational Technology from the East Texas State University in Commerce.

Michael retired from Federal Service in September 30, 1998, which consisted of Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, U.S. Army Forces, and U.S. Office of Personnel Management. He went on to pursue a second career with Affiliated Computer Services, Baylor Health Care System and Blue Cross Blue Shield. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972. He taught and coached in Beeville and Raymondville, Texas. The most important thing in Michael’s life was his daughters whom he loved so very dearly, as those acquainted with Michael would attest. He also had an ardent passion for hunting and fishing. He was an avid reader and enjoyed historical novels.

Michael is survived by his wife, three daughters: Kimberly Jones Blair Salas and her husband Luca of Arp, Texas, Whitney Jones of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Laura Kennedy Mallet of Moore, Oklahoma; three grandchildren: Colt Blair of Arp, Texas, Cody Blair of Arp, Texas , and Julian Mallet of Moore, Oklahoma; sister Kathy Jones Hoes and husband Ron of Rowlett, Texas; sister-in-law Kathy Jones of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; uncle Davis Rex of Commerce, Texas; aunts Pat Rex of Ladonia, Texas and Betty Jones of Norwalk, California and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents and his beloved brother, Billy Morris Jones.

He impacted our lives in a way that will be cherished forever. Although his loss has left a void, his spirit lives on in the memories of those he touched.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 29 at Stonebriar Funeral Home in Frisco, TX at 10AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts and memorials be made in Michael’s honor to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
