Mike was born in Oakland, California on April 19, 1944 to Thomas Francis and Dorothy Gray Grimshaw. He served 4 years in the United States Navy on the USS F.D. Roosevelt where he served in the Vietnam war and traveled to multiple ports around the world. Mike then attended college and graduated from UT Arlington with a degree in accounting. He worked in Public Accounting, Oil and Gas Industry and from there he found his calling as a Financial Advisor for Merrill Lynch and then Morgan Stanley – retiring in 2012.
Mike married Cindy Grimshaw in 1985, they had 2 sons - Jim and Joe. The family was very involved and active at St. Monica’s Catholic Church and school. Mike especially enjoyed being a member and supporting St Monica’s Dad’s Club.
Mike liked to read, work mind and number puzzles, follow the local sports teams, hunt and fish. He was actively involved in numerous organizations – Order of Malta, Holy Sepulchre, Knights of Columbus and Serra Club. He also loved and supported Montserrat Jesuit Retreat House, Holy Trinity Catholic Seminary and The Catholic Foundation Dallas. He loved his work helping the sick and poor and was very dedicated to Meals on Wheels, Bread Delivery, Austin Street Shelter, North Dallas Shared Ministries, feeding the homeless.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Thomas Grimshaw and his youngest sister Mary. Mike is survived by his wife, Cindy, children Jim, Joe, Thomas and his wife Anastasiya, grandchildren Lana Grace and Kira Morgan, sisters Denise Cupp and Thomasina Hickmann, brother Peter Grimshaw and his wife Kathy. Other family members include brother-in-law Mike Carroll and his wife Renee, nieces Cassie Carroll and Corinne Cochran, nephews Cody Carroll, Clay Carroll and Chris Parson, and many other cousins.
A rosary will be recited November 16, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St Monica Catholic Church, 9933 Midway Rd, Dallas, Texas 75220. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St Monica Catholic Church. A committal will follow with Military Honors at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, Texas 75220.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mike's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank all those who have been involved in Mike's life, and for Carlo Cueto from St. Michael’s Archangel Catholic Church who brought him daily communion for the last several months.
