Maryann Sarris Mihalopoulos passed away on October 24, 2020. She died surrounded by her family and in the arms of those who loved her. Maryann lived with passion and joy, with her faith, family, and work as the primary pillars of her life. Born December 26, 1959, in Galveston, Texas, she was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Arthur Louis Sarris. Maryann graduated from the Hockaday School in Dallas, TX, in 1978. She then attended Southern Methodist University, where she received her B.B.A., J.D., and LL.M degrees. After graduating from SMU Law School, she began working at the law office of Peter S. Chantilis, where she worked for 10 years. Thereafter, she started her own firm, which became her second family. In addition to her legal career, Maryann, an entrepreneur, founded both Xela Aroma and Salon 4411, an outlet for her creativity and refined sense of style.
Maryann lived to stand up for others. Outside of her professional endeavors, Maryann was an engaged community member and dedicated philanthropist. She had a passion for serving those around her, day in and day out. An alumna of The Hockaday School, she was instrumental in improving and growing the school, and committed to empowering women through education. She was deeply involved with a number of other organizations with the same passion and fervor: St Mark’s School of Texas, the UT Southwestern Foundation, and most recently, Cristo Rey School of Dallas. Devoted to her faith, Maryann was the first woman President of her church, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, during which time she helped relocate and build the present-day Church at its North Dallas campus.
Maryann is survived by her husband and best friend of 26 years, Frank Mihalopoulos, and her three children, Alexandra Sarris Halbardier and her husband Ford, Arthur Tingay Brousseau, and Meredith Foster Mihalopoulos, whom she loved and who were her “life”. She also had two grandchildren, Louis Allen Halbardier and Charlotte Sarris Halbardier, whom she loved more than words can express and were her joy. She is also survived by her mother Linda Foster Sarris and her sister Thalia Sarris and her family. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Baylor University Medical Center, especially Dr. Dan Meyer, Dr. Randy Rosenblatt, Dr. Britton Blough, and Katy Lingle Jordan for all they do daily – not only for the family but the entire community.
