Mary Lou Herrin

Mary Lou Herrin, age 92, passed away December 13, 2023 in Dallas, Texas. She was born March 13, 1931 in Dallas to parents John Gibson Brooks and Anna Oleta Brooks. She spent her early childhood years in McKinney and later moved with the family to Dallas. She attended grade school and high school in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas. In 1948 she graduated from Pleasant Grove High School where she met and maintained many friends for life. After graduating she went to work at Texas & Pacific Railway as a comptometer operator in the billing department. In 1955 she married William David Herrin and they began a long and happy life together. They were married for over 65 years until David’s death in 2021. Most of those years they lived in the Casa View area of Dallas and spent many happy hours with neighbors, family and life-long friends.

Mary particularly loved gardening in her backyard, greenhouse and flowerbeds. She and David both loved ice skating at the old Fair Park Ice Arena and went every chance they could. They also enjoyed traveling, collecting antiques and decorating their home. Mary Lou’s family and friends will always remember her as outgoing, generous, full of life and a joy to be around.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her mother and father, a brother, Charles Brooks and her beloved husband David.

She is survived by her sister, Shirley Ann Brooks Karlen and numerous nieces and nephews.
