Born September 21, 1917, in Coolidge, Texas, Martha graduated from high school in 1934 and then attended business school. She married J.A. “Jack” Ferguson on
May 17, 1941, in Corsicana, Texas.
Martha and Jack were longtime members of Casa View Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. Martha joined Casa View Baptist in 1955, where she taught and served in many areas. In her later years, Martha was an avid bridge player and reader, and she enjoyed crossword puzzles. She will be most remembered for her kindness, her sweet smile, and her love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, E.C. and Louise Rice, her brothers David Rice and Eugene Rice, and her husband Jack Ferguson.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marti and John Meppen of Carrollton, Texas; three granddaughters, Amy and Paul Neal of Valdosta, Georgia, Allison Hutchins of Carrollton, Texas, and Leanne and Alan Duigan of Sherman, Texas; three great-grandsons, Thomas Hutchins, Andrew Neal, and Christopher Neal; sister-in-law Patsy Rice of Niceville, Florida; and five nieces.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 21, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home. The celebration of her life will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 22 at Grove Hill Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana, Texas.
