Marlyn was born in New York City on Christmas Day, 1930. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to the family farm in County Cork, Ireland where she lived until her teen years when she then returned to New York. She received a secretarial degree and went on to work at General Electric.
Marlyn married William Viering in 1955 and welcomed four children. The Viering’s relocated to Texas where she lived the duration of her life.
Marlyn was heavily involved in the Catholic Church in Dallas as well as the Oblate Missionary efforts. She later moved to San Antonio, married Michael C. Kimball, and became active in programs at St. Matthew’s Parish. She belonged to the Irish Culture Society and Harp and Shamrock Society. Ireland was always a part of her soul; she deeply embraced her heritage.
She was highly honored to be invited to a private mass with Pope John Paul II in his chapel in Castel Gondalfo, receiving a personal rosary from the Holy Father.
Marlyn is preceded in death by William Viering, Michael Kimball and grandson, Justin Miller.
Marlyn is survived by her sister, Cecilia and (Hank Kramer), children, Ann and (Mike Fletcher), Linda Miller, Kathy Barnes, Bill and (Ryann Viering). Grandchildren, Beth, Amanda, Lindsey, and Jessica along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as long time cherished friends.
A graveside Christian service is scheduled for 10:00am, Tuesday, July 9 at Calvary Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marlyn’s memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Residence, 330 W. Pembroke Ave., Dallas, TX 75208 or to your local Alzheimer’s Association.
