Marjorie Beck Waters, 92, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in Dallas, Texas. She was born on April 14, 1929, in Oak Park, Illinois, to Robert and Mary Beck. At the age of 16 she took flying lessons and obtained her Student Pilot license. She attended Southern Seminary College in Virginia and SMU, where she was a proud member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.
Marj raised her family of three sons in Highland Park and lived in the Park Cities for 58 years. In the 1970s she sold real estate at Lakeside Realty.
Because of her love for the Park Cities, in January 1977 she bought The Park Cities News newspaper, which would become her fourth child. She served as President and Publisher for 44 years. She was a member of the Texas Press Association and National Newspaper Association.
She was a member of Dallas Woman’s Club, Junior League of Dallas, Crystal Charity, Craig’s Class, DMA, Nasher Sculpture and a past president of Dallas Summer Musicals Guild.
She was a member of St. Michael and All Angels Church.
She was predeceased by her son, Peter Hallum Waters; her brothers, Robert H. Beck and Stuart Beck. She will be sadly missed by her family, including her sons Dan Waters and wife Ann of Nashville, Tennessee, and Tom Waters and wife Janet of Charlottesville, Virginia; grandchildren Avery Waters and Austin Waters.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
