Margaret Humlong Steele Morris

Margaret Humlong Steele Morris died peacefully in her sleep on September 3, 2016. She will be remembered as a loyal and loving friend, mother, and wife, who was intellectually curious and an independent thinker, with a great sense of humor. Margaret was born on September 22, 1922, in Dallas, Texas, to Margaret Lee Humlong and Hervey Humlong. After Margaret was born, she moved back to the family's ranch in Bronte, Texas, and then moved to San Angelo to start school at the age of five. She graduated valedictorian of San Angelo High in 1939 and then attended The University of Texas, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and was honored as a Bluebonnet Belle and Phi Beta Kappa.

She met William B. "Bill" Steele, Jr., at The University. They were married on September 23, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan. After Bill completed his service as a naval officer during the war, they moved to Dallas and started a family, where Margaret lived ever since.

She was an active volunteer in the Junior League, the Dallas Women's Club and the Dallas Garden Club. Margaret was a member of Church of the Incarnation, where she served on the Altar Guild for over fifty years. Margaret was an avid reader and loved to travel. She was also an accomplished bridge player. Margaret and many of her life-long friends were in The Bridge Club, whose members seemed to know what their kids were doing before their kids did.

Margaret's husband Bill Steele died in 1984, and she remarried Bill Morris in 1991. Bill Morris passed away in 2010. Margaret

is survived by her three children: Molly Steele Blackmon and her husband Tom Blackmon, and their son David and daughter Sallie; Buddy Steele and his wife Maggie, and their sons Baylor and Hamilton; and Sally Steele Schuhmacher and her husband Dan, and their sons Will and George and daughter Katie Vissio and her husband Emmanuel.

Margaret's family wishes to thank her caregivers Patricia Hart and Susan Stahl, who were her close companions and devoted friends.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 12, at 11:00 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel at the Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Church of the Incarnation, or the charity of your choice.
