Louisa Joanne Hawkins passed peacefully on Sunday, June 12th after a long battle with illness. Joanne was born in Jackson, Tennessee on May 28, 1926. She was the oldest of four children of Rufus and Lois Glisson Crawford. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Herman L. Hawkins, retired Air Force Lt. Colonel, their daughter, Vicki Neverdousky and son, Mike Hawkins. She has five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her life as an Air Force wife gave them the opportunity to live and travel to many foreign countries such as Japan, Thailand, China, Scotland, Germany, Wales, Ireland, England, Israel and the Holy Land. Being a devout Christian, Joanne was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church. She was also a very active member of the Pastel Society of the Southwest, The Association of Oriental Arts and TAG (“Thursday Art Group“). Along with her family and her faith, her passion for art never diminished. The funeral service will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home on Northwest Highway will take place at 10am Thursday, June 16, 2011. She will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery.
