Leonard Ivan Jacobs was born on March 13, 1928, and passed away on December 8, 2020. He is survived by his wife Jean Jacobs, sons Stuart (Marian) Jacobs, Ron (Lyn) Jacobs and daughter Barbie (Mark) Herskowitz.
Len was a GREAT Husband of 68 years; grandfather of 9; great-grandfather of 8; brother of 3; and a life-long friend to many!
Len was 92 years old at his death. He and his wife Jean, who he affectionately called “Dolly”, were true lovebirds to the very end. Len and Jean had a great life together. They traveled extensively and especially loved going on cruises and bus trips. They lived in many locations around the United States and abroad.
Len was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. His mother was from Baltimore and his father from eastern Europe. His parents owned “Jacobs Leather”, a shoe supply store in downtown Baltimore. Len’s brothers took over the business, but he had other interests. He learned electronics while in the Air Force in the 1950s. After his military career, he held various jobs, but eventually built a career with the Army & Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES), where he was a buyer until retirement in 1991.
Len played sports in high school, including wrestling and football. Len met Jean at a bowling alley. They married in 1952, when Len was in town from active duty on a weekend pass.
When Len was asked how he would like to be remembered, he said that “his kids turned out so well”. When asked about his regrets, he said “that he never finished college” because his parents didn’t have the money and did not think it was necessary at the time.
Len never met a stranger. He would have made a great “Walmart greeter” and all who knew him certainly would agree!
The family would like to thank Rabbi Elana Zelony for officiating at the funeral and the entire Congregation Beth Torah family for their help and support. The Jacobs family would also like to thank Vitas Healthcare (Hospice) and Sunrise on Hillcrest (Assisted Senior Living) for taking such good care of Dad in his final months.
