John Douglas Strand

John “Jack” Douglas Strand, age 90, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully on Nov 19th, 2022 in Plano, TX. He was born on April 25th, 1932, in St. Paul, MN to Alfred & Mabel (Watts) Strand.

Jack was raised in Mpls, MN and graduated from Central High School. His family lived on a farm in MN where he helped with thrashing until he was 9 yrs. old. Life on the farm sparked Jack’s interest in steam, gas, and hot air engines. Jack bought his first gas engine as a young man and continued throughout his life. He was in the Navy Reserves for 8 yrs. He married Adrienne Weise in 1954 and

the couple had 3 children. He ran Mason Construction crews throughout the Twin Cities where he worked for more than 43 years. In 1993 Jack married Karen Reid and moved to Plano, TX. Jack and Karen traveled around the United States to various antique engine shows, adding new pieces to his growing collections. Jack loved sitting by a bonfire enjoying everyone’s company, spending time with family and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Alfred & Mable Strand, brother Lawrence Strand, sister Sharon Sale, daughter-in-law Linda Strand, great granddaughter Ava Joswick.

Jack is survived by his wife Karen Strand. His children: Lisa Strand - Joswick (Paul), Mike Strand, and Lana Chelsen (Mark). His stepchildren: Allen Reid (Nelida), and Laurie Rice (Eddie). His grandchildren: Dylan Joswick (Kellie), Matthew Strand, Jacob Strand (Jenchira), Casey Chelsen (Michele), Alexa Chelsen, Salina Chelsen, Stephen Chelsen, Jordan Rice and Jared Rice. His great grandchildren: Rowan Strand, Blake Joswick, Kennedy Joswick and many nieces & nephews.

Celebration of Life held at Custer Road United Methodist Church on Dec 15, 2022, at 1:30pm. Reception to follow at Aboca 3-6pm. Aboca 100 S. Central Expy #63, Richardson, TX 75080.

Jack’s zest for life will be remembered long after his passing.
