Dr. John Lawrence Kestel Jr.

John L. Kestel, Jr., M.D. died April 2, 2023 in Dallas, Texas. He was born September 28, 1933 in Waterloo, Iowa. Son of John L. Kestel and Elizabeth Watson Kestel. He married Phyllis Marie Sisson June 16, 1962.

Dr. Kestel graduated from Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska in 1958 and completed his Dermatology residency at the University of Minnesota in 1962. After completing his residency, he and Phyllis moved to Dallas to open his Dermatology practice, which he continued until 2016, with only a break in his practice during the Vietnam War when he served in the United States Army as a Dermatologist with the Rank of Major (1966-1968).

Dr. Kestel was a past president of the Dallas Dermatology Society and Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He was also a long time parishioner of St. Monica Catholic Church of Dallas. He volunteered his services at the Dallas Shared Ministries to provide Dermatological care to those in need.

Dr, Kestel is survived by his wife, three sons and their families: John and Lori Kestel and their son John Luke and daughter Kaitlyn; Joseph and Stephanie Kestel; and Harold and Katheryn Kestel and their son William and daughter Virginia.

Visitation will be held from 4-6pm with Rosary at 5pm on Tuesday, April 11th at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas.

Mass will be held 11am on Wednesday April 12th at St. Monica Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas with entombment to follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
