John H. Johnson was born in Dallas, TX on September 26, 1950, to Marjorie Cooper and John Williams. He was the second to the youngest child of 5 children. He was the closet to his sisters however he admired his big brothers.
John attended South Oak Cliff High School where he ran track and played football. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force at the age of 19 years old. While in the military he received specialized training to become a fireman and was stationed at bases within the US and the Philippines until 1977 when he discharged as Staff Sargent.
After leaving the military John worked for Western Electric where he discovered his gifts of his hands and details to putting things together. He became HVAC certified and pursued a career in HVAC and maintenance. He not only enjoyed putting toys together for his daughters and grandchildren but also laid floors and remodeled his homes with his former wife Saundra while in Real Estate.
John loved traveling and seeing as much of God’s beauty in nature as he could over the years. Visiting such places as the Sequoia National Park, Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, The Grand Canyon, to the historic sites of DC and Virginia. This refreshed his Soul. In his latter years John would walk his 2 to 3 miles every morning, sometimes with his dog Delta.
John Johnson departed this life on Friday, September 24, 2021. He was preceded in death by his mother Marjorie Cooper, John H. Williams (father), Candice Johnson (daughter), Jennifer Johnson (daughter), Leroy Gay III (brother) and Lawrence Johnson (brother).
He leaves to cherish his memory: Saundra Johnson (former spouse); Children: Die ‘Rich Johnson (Renae), Pamela Johnson (James), Melanie Goodman (Bennett), Brandon Moats; Siblings: Helen Ann Jackson, Jean Baskerville (Don Baskerville), Lola Gay (Leroy); Grandchildren: Jaiden Blocker, Infiniti Johnson, Brielle Goodman, Caitlin Moats and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
