Born in Dallas on December 6, 1940, to Antonia and Jesse Gonzales, he graduated from Crozier Tech High School and attended The University of Texas at Arlington. John married Mary Helen English in 1962 and settled in Dallas to raise a family.
John retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service. He enjoyed reading, listening to music, taking family photos, fishing, and watching Texas Rangers baseball, soccer, and horse racing. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He rarely turned down an invitation to travel with his children and grandchildren. John was a godly man and devout Catholic who practiced his faith throughout his life. He was a fine example of humility and sacrifice. John was a source of quiet strength for his family.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Antonia and Jesse, and his siblings Charles Gonzales, Josephine Castillo, and Jesse Gonzales II.
John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Helen; 5 children: John (Valarie) Gonzales, Steven (Cindy) Gonzales, Adam Gonzales, Ursula (Patrick) Blanchard, Erica (Adrian) Dominguez; 14 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 6 brothers and sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm, with the Rosary at 6 pm, on June 22, 2023, at Calvary Hill Chapel.
