Joe was born on December 16, 1945 in rural Bell County, Texas to Chapple Ray Burns and Crete Virginia Woodruff Burns. Joe grew up in Holland, TX and graduated from Holland High School before moving to Midland and then to Colorado where he met and married Teresa Gordon. Joe was drafted into the Army and stationed in Fairbanks, AK. and returned to Colorado after his discharge, where he lived until moving back to Texas over 30 years ago. Joe spent the majority of his career as a foreman for Phoenix Fabricators, until his retirement in 2018. Joe married Tammy White in December of 2012 and was living in Italy, TX at the time of his death.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Crete Burns, his first wife Teresa Joan, brother Charles Burns, half-brothers Sherman Ray (Hoover) Burns, Cecil Burns, T.L. (Pete) Burns, and half-sister Leta Fay Tout. Joe is survived by his wife Tammy Burns, stepsons William and Braidyn Shine of Waxahachie. Sisters Doris Severson of Holland, Tx, Shirley Peel and Sherry Bennett of Waxahachie, Brothers Burnie Burns of Waxahachie, and Chapple Burns of Temple and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be a funeral service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A committal service for Joe will be held Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at McLean Cemetery, Becker Ln, Rogers, TX 76569.
