Jeffrey Walter Kerr, age 60, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a hard fought 6 year cancer battle on December 25, 2013. Jeff leaves behind his mother, Jean Ellen Kerr, "mum", age 94, who currently resides in Dallas. He also leaves behind his older sister JoAnne Kerr from Connecticut and James "Jim" Kerr and 2 nieces from California. Jeff is preceded in death by his father, James J. Kerr who passed in 1994 and his beloved dog Dolly.
Jeff was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 8, 1953. Jeff graduated from John Adams High School, South Bend, Indiana in 1972 and graduated from Indiana University Kelley School of Business with a degree in Accounting in 1976. Jeff bought his first home in The Colony in the late 80's, where he resided until his passing. Jeff is well known for his elaborate holiday decorations in Northpointe for Christmas and Halloween where he spent many hours preparing for the seasons trick-or-treaters and holiday light spectators.
Jeff worked for 13 years as CFO for Performance Door and Hardware, Inc in Irving and previously worked for Western Extrusion for 12 years as the Assistant Controller. Jeff was a dedicated member in the Boy Scouts of America and continued to mentor the lives of Boy Scouts for many decades. As a boy, Jeff was a Life Scout who went on to serve as a Scout Master and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award.
Jeff had many interests, countless friends and positively influenced those lucky enough to know him. Jeff loved to travel, was a fan of Ragbrai, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Texas Rangers, Walt Disney World and his beloved Hoosiers. Jeff loved the outdoors and to go sailing, boating, camping and fishing. Jeff loved to spend time with his friends and family, his "Bandits", good cigars, great scotch, good steaks and his dog Dolly. Though Jeff had no children of his own, he has positively affected the lives of countless Boy Scouts and young friends through his adventures, stories and advice. Jeff completed his first triathlon, one of his proudest moments, in Oct 2011 while battling cancer. Jeff has been quoted saying "Realize you must live for the moment since our time on earth is not in our control".
Visitation will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home on Saturday, December 28, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services for Jeff Kerr will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
