Jean Mary Walker Greer was born August 3, 1928, in Little Neck, New York. She died on December 16, 2020. She was the daughter of Frank Walker and Laura Boyne Walker. Jean had a brother, John Walker and sister, Joan Walker Cavallo.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Laura Walker, her husband Robert Greer and her sister Joan Walker Cavallo. Her father, Frank Walker, was a recording industry executive, whose career included hiring and managing great musicians such as Bessie Smith & Glenn Miller, starting the MGM Record label, hiring and managing Hank Williams and, in 2020, won a Grammy Trustees award for his contributions to the recording industry. Jean grew up in New York City and had an exciting young life. Jean graduated from Mary Louis Academy high school in New York City & Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. Because her father was an executive in the recording industry, she enjoyed meeting many singers and celebrities, including Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey, Debbie Reynolds & Jack Benny. She even played the piano with Fats Waller! Jean also was a model for the famous artist Arthur Sarnoff; appearing in magazines such as Ladies Home Journal and Good Housekeeping.
On April 11, 1953, Jean Walker married Robert Greer in Little Neck, New York. Because her husband was a Navy officer, they moved frequently, living in Pensacola, Florida, Oakland, California, and near Boston, Massachusetts. In 1970, they settled in Dallas, Texas, Robert Greer’s home town.
Jean is survived by her brother, John Walker, daughters Pamela Kuerbitz and Kathleen (Kay) Garsea, her son-in-law, Richard Garsea, granddaughters Laura Garsea Peterson, Mary Garsea and Anne Garsea, and grandson-in-law, Justin Peterson.
Jean will be very much missed, but lovingly remembered for her devotion to family, her emphasis on good education, her great and interesting stories and her generous and loving spirit.
