A graduate of Samuel High School in Dallas, J.D. joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a medic and as a dental technician. After his honorable discharge from the service, J.D. embarked on his career as a telephone repair man for Southwestern Bell, later AT&T, where he worked for 33 years before his retirement in 2002.
J.D. enjoyed spending time pursuing various hobbies, including coin collecting, fishing, playing computer games, and solving crossword and word search puzzles. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He could be found driving them in the carpool and attended all of their various sports and activities. Their beloved Papaw was always so proud of them and will be remembered as their biggest fan.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Burnace and Bernice Dawson; sister, Joan Owens; and sister-in-law, Judy Dawson.
His memory will be cherished by his wife of 32 years, Andrea Dawson; daughter, Dianna (Dee Dee) Morones and son-in-law Robert Morones; son, Todd Yeakle and Sarah Kreft; brother, Mickey Dawson; nephew, Keith Moyer; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Hogg, Todd Yeakle, Jr., Amanda Morones, Sarah Yeakle, Kelley Yeakle, Lauren Yeakle, James Flowers, Matthew Morones, Kaine Yeakle, Brandon Flowers, and Claire Kreft; 1 great-granddaughter, Emily Hogg; as well as many extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, and Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm, all at Grove Hill Funeral Home.
