Jay Ben Horowitz, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on April 7th, 2018. He was born in Jackson, Mississippi, on August 26th, 1938, to Bess and Abe Horowitz. He moved to Dallas with his family in 1956. As a senior at Highland Park High School, he met Sue Goldstrich. After attending the University of Texas at Austin, they married. In 1959, Jay joined his father-in-law in business where they would be partners for many years. In 1976 he founded SEI, a furniture and accessories importer and wholesaler. Over the ensuing forty years, he grew the business to include two of his sons and hundreds of loving devotees. He is survived by Sue Horowitz; his brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie & Nancy Horowitz; children Gary Horowitz, Cynthia Graser, Mike & Dena Horowitz, Steve Horowitz, Allison Biancamano, Scott Horowitz, and Wendy Horowitz Black. Called “Poppy” by his grandchildren, he is survived by Cole Horowitz, Conor Horowitz, Sam Horowitz, Sydney Horowitz, Max Horowitz, Alden Black, Reece Black, Trace Black, and Brie Black. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will forever be remembered by his colorful nature, kindness, generosity, and most of all, his humor. Later in life, Jay’s personality shined through bright shirts, classic fedoras, and an infectious smile.
