He grew up on the south side of Dallas and attended Forest High School. He met the love of his life, Charline, in 1952 while playing miniature golf. They were married May 1, 1956 for 66 yrs. James served in the Army from 1956-1962 and was stationed in Germany for part of his military career. After the military, he worked at Frito-Lay as a salesman for 35 yrs. when he retired.
James loved dancing and danced competitively in his younger days. He was an avid bowler and belonged to many bowling leagues throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed playing golf as well which he did as much as time would allow. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh and smile. He was known for sharing jokes with everyone he met. He had at least one joke to share with his family when he came home from work each day.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a devout catholic and was a long time member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus of Oak Cliff.
His parents, brothers Bobby and Billy Thrasher, his daughter Mary Pat Thrasher and grandson Gregory Thrasher preceded James in death.
He is survived by his wife Charline Thrasher, children Sheryl Kawa of Royse City, Loretta & husband Charles Middleton of Waxahachie, Paul and wife Debbie Thrasher of Red Oak, Michelle and husband Lee Glasco of Clifton, Angela Thrasher of Dallas, Colleen and husband Tracy Moore of Red Oak, Charles Thrasher of Flower Mound and honorary daughters Debra Chapman of Dallas and Terri and husband Kelly Harris of Tyler. He leaves behind 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, his brother Charkie and wife Clota Thrasher of Mesquite, sister-in-law Sandy Thrasher of Dallas, nieces and nephews, as well as many other family and friends.
A visitation for James will be held Monday, October 3, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, with the rosary to start at 6:30pm. A mass of Christian burial will occur Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Hill Main Mausoleum North Chapel, with interment to follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, Texas 75220.
