James Chandler Mathis, age 80, passed away on December 21st, 2024 in Dallas, Texas. He was born June 13th, 1944 in Salem, Oregon to Jacob Chandler Mathis and Jane Edgar Mathis. Jim was raised in Dallas, Texas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1962. He was an avid learner and earned his undergraduate degree from Georgia Tech in 1966 then went on to study Philosophy of Science at Indiana University. He later earned a Masters in Computer Science from UTD in 1988, and a Masters in Management and Administrative Services from UTD in 1994. He worked in banking, insurance, and computer programming until his retirement. He enjoyed reading books about philosophy and math, visiting art galleries, and attending Mensa meetings, philosophy discussion groups, and computer programmer meet-ups. Jim is survived by his daughter Eleanor Knott, son-in-law Michael Knott, granddaughter Sally Knott, and sister Sally Mathis. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday 1/12 at Times Ten Too in Lakewood from 3-5pm (come-and-go) with remarks and a toast at 3:30.
