James was born on November 7, 1930 in Spring Hill, Tennessee, a son of his father James Crawford Jacobs and his mother Lola Elizabeth Willis. As a child, Jim was a fun loving, joke telling freckle faced boy who loved to fish with his father. He had a huge laugh.
He grew up in Franklin, Tennessee and met his wife of 63 years, Betsy, in the first grade. Some of his nicknames included Jimmy, JJ, and Bubba.
Jim graduated from BGA Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tennessee. He then went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University in 1957 with a degree in electrical engineering. The majority of his career, he was a regional sales manager for Tektronix.
He greatly enjoyed fishing and golf. He also loved to talk sports with his grandson Andrew. He loved to be on the lake or a stream with a fishing pole. He loved the University of Tennessee fight son Rocky Top and Patsy Cline.
He served his country in the Air Force from 1951 to 1954 in the Korean War.
Jim was an elder at the West Plano Presbyterian Church and served multiple times on the session (the leadership of the church). In addition, he was also a Mason.
He married his best friend Betty (Betsy) Church in 1955. He is survived by his wife: Betsy Jacobs. He is also survived by his children: Jeff Jacobs, David Jacobs, Larry Jacobs, and Maggie Moore. And his grandchildren: Mary Jacobs and Andrew Jacobs. One brother: Dan Lovelace and one sister in law: Judy McCutcheon.
He was preceded in death by: his father James Crawford Jacobs, his stepmother Eva Jacobs, his mother Lola McCutcheon, and brother Walker McCutcheon.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the West Plano Presbyterian Church, located at 2709 Custer Road, Plano, Texas 75075.
Rev. Dr. David Batchelder will officiate.
A private family inurnment will be held at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
