Hogan, James E. died Wednesday July 17, 2013. Born April 18, 1925 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph and Cora Depew Hogan and is preceded in death by his brothers, William, Joseph, and Thomas and nephew, James. Jim was a graduate of St. Joseph University in Philadelphia and an Army veteran who served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. For 37 years, he was in management at the United Parcel Service (UPS) in Pennsylvania and Texas. In his 29 years of retirement, Jim enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, supporting favorite charities, and spending time with family and friends. He was an active member of St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Plano, Texas; the Serra Club; and the Catholic Foundation.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Catherine née Dougherty, six daughters, eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren: Barbara Hogan-Zarro and husband Vincent; Patricia Franklin, husband Thomas, and their children, Joanna (and her children Anthony and Megan), Molly, and Dennis; Nancy Zeleniak and children James, Ginnean Sinclair, husband Douglas and daughter Juliette, and Caitlin; Maureen Hogan and daughters Meaghan and Anne McGrath; Kathleen Hogan; and Meaghan Evanich, husband David, and children, John, Mara, and Nicholas, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
The family extends deep gratitude to the staff of the Rosewood Assisted Living and Memory Care Community, Maria Diaz, and Odyssey Hospice for their compassionate, loving care for Jim and his family in the last months of his life.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 1201 Alma, Plano, TX 75075. A vigil will be held at the Church on Sunday, July 21st at 7:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Jim's name to St. Joseph's Residence in Dallas, Texas (http://www.stjr.org) where long-term care is provided for those in need or to St. Vincent de Paul Society (http://svdpdallas.org/donate/).
