Jack Cox, 86, passed away on February 10, 2022 in Dallas, Texas. Jack was born on March 13, 1935 in Hart, Texas to father Virgil Elijah Cox and mother Velma Dell Lundy. Jack was a native of South Texas and graduated from Prairie Lea High School in 1952. He was a First Class Airman for the U.S. Air Force. He served in the Air Force for 6 years. In 1959 he married Barbara (née Bongers) Cox in Büchenbeuren, Germany. They were married for nearly 63 years at the time of his passing. Jack went on to become a successful land developer, realtor, contractor, and entrepreneur. In his spare time, Jack enjoyed traveling, piloting his private aircrafts, fishing, golf, horse racing, and spending time with his family and those he loved most.
Jack’s family and dearest friends will always remember him as a loving husband, a great father, a generous grandfather, and an overall wise and fearless man who always put his family first.
In passing he joins his mother and father, his brothers Wayne and Jimmy Cox, and his sisters Celia Acrey and Bonnie Davidson.
His legacy lives on through his wife, Barbara (née Bongers) Cox, his daughter Marianne Gumaer, son Walter Cox, daughter-in-law Anne Cox, his sister-in-law Marianne Obermann (Germany), his brother-in-law J.T. Acrey, his cousins Lydia Barth (Germany), Alice Nabors (Washington, USA), his grandchildren Cameron Dugan, Elijah Cox, Samuel Cox, his granddaughters Anneliese Gumaer, Grace Cox, Anna Sneed and Mariana (née Sterne) Wells. He is also survived by his nieces Jackie Twinn, Deborah Goodwin, Brenda Acrey-Ford, Lavona Cox, Karen Cox, Tammy Cox, Janice Cox and Kirsten Brenne (Germany), and his nephews Jimmy and Dennis Cox, Cecil Jr. “Bubby” Davidson, Clifford Davidson and his nephew-in-law Jochen Brenne (Germany).
Jack’s memory will also live on through the memories of loved ones Bryan Springfield, Gary Springfield, Karen (née Springfield) Verne, Richard Ortega, Ivan Gonzales, James Bullington, Clint Akins, their families, and so many more.
Jack Cox co-founded Jadima Const. and Investment of Pueblo, Colorado with partners Dick Springfield and Mario Bassi. Together they were able to build a legacy in the 1970’s in Pueblo, bringing the Sonic drive-in franchise to both Pueblo and Denver as well as becoming one of the largest residential and commercial building companies in the area at that time. They named the company after the first letters of each partner’s first names. An entrepreneur, Jack attended business college and took pride in being a pilot, spending his earlier time flying and piloting his own private aircraft himself.
Jack was fortunate and blessed to spend his last days surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and dearest friends. There will be no viewing. Military Funeral Honors will be held for Jack on Friday, March 25th at 10:15 A.M. at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery located at 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
