On August 25, 2022, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Hortencia Valdez earned her wings. She lived 73 wonderful years. Born on April 8th, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas to Nicolas Manuel Lopez and Antonia Garcia Lopez. In San Antonio she met and married the love of her life, Jesse Valdez Sr. and had 5 children.
Hortencia’s children were the light of her life and her pride and joy. A very nurturing and involved mother, she was always present for every special occasion her children presented her with. She was always very proud of them and walked with them hand in hand on their journey of life. Always a busy bee with 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, she always made time for each of them. She could always entertain them with stories, books, and especially songs. Baby Beluga was always the favorite and most requested. When football was on, you would find Hortencia rooting for her favorite team, the Steelers. She also enjoyed Crime and Western shows and sharing facts about Dinosaurs.
Hortencia devoted herself to her work as a Teacher’s Assistant for many years. Within the remarkable years as an educator, she touched the lives of many of her colleagues, parents, and students and inspired many young minds. Not only will Hortencia be remembered as a mentor of the youth, but also as one of the most generous and big-hearted individuals anyone could ever meet. No matter how many places she visited, she never met a stranger and always made a friend. Everyone was always so drawn to her selfless and compassionate soul. Big smiles would emerge just at the mention of the name Mrs. Valdez. No one was ever left out around her, whether it came to Holidays, Birthdays, conversations, food or even gifts.
Hortencia will live forever in our hearts and be deeply missed by all. Her legacy and memory will forever be remembered.
