I arrived in Fairbanks, Alaska 60 years ago this month to stay the proverbial "one year" to teach general music at the then "new" Denali Elementary School.  I remember meeting Mrs. Vandermeer and their son who was then in the 7th grade.  Like so many people who expect to stay just one year, it turned out that I stayed for almost 59 years, married Dick Scott and had a family!  Over those years I enjoyed having several Vandermeer children in my classes.  Without exception, they were all great kids!  They can be proud of their parents! Dear Becky & Family; While I only knew of your Mother Hilda through Becky she must have been a great lady.   She did a wonderful job of raising a kind and caring daughter of that I know for certain.  May you all feel the Blessings of the Lord Jesus during this difficult time.   She has entered into a "new life" filled with Love and Happiness.

Dear family, we are sorry for your loss, but always remember that God is ready to help you during this difficult time, like the bible says in Numbers 6:26 "May God lift up his face toward you and assign peace to you"!

BECKY, YOUR MOM WAS ONE OF A KIND, I ONLY NEW HER THROUGH YOU AND HER CARDS TO ME.  SHE WAS A AMAZING LADY.  SHE WILL BE MISSED.  PRAYERS TO YOU AND YOURS.

To Aunt Hilda's Children and Grandchildren. Although I never really knew your Mom, she was my Mom's (Jean Bergman) younger sister. What a wonderful heritage you have been given through her. I know how difficult it is to lose your Mom/Grandma and pray that you will find comfort knowing she is resting in the arms of our Savior.

What a heritage this godly woman has left...We praise God for her life, for equipping her to raise the many children you gave her.  I lift them up to you, their spouses, their children and grandchildren.  I pray that You will draw each of them to yourself at early ages throughout the generations to come.  May you do mighty work in each--and through each--to glorify you.

Grandma Vandermeer, I always looked up to you.  You were such a strong woman and a wonderful mother to your many children!  I am so thankful to have known you and thankful for your warmth and kindness that you have always shown my family.

I always told everyone you were the epitome of a PERFECT grandma; cooked everything from scratch, sewed, knitted, crocheted, made doilies, rolled out the dough for handmade rolls all the time, cooked delicious food, made wonderful pies, played music, hosted all the parties, showers & get-togethers, never ever complained, held all the babies, changed diapers, etc, etc.  The list goes on & on.  Most of all, you were a strong, beautiful, wise Christian woman who taught us all the most important things in life.  We are forever grateful, will love you always, will miss you terribly, but know that we will see you again someday in the best place of all.    Your very first granddaughter, Lynn.

Mom...You were the best. I love you. Thanks so much for the love, protection and prayers. I will be seeing you in the future. Ray
