Helen Jackson Harper was born in Louisville Kentucky on July 2, 1919, and peacefully left this life on October 3, 2015. Helen arrived by train to Texas to work for the Ford Motor Company in 1935. Only a teenager when she came to Dallas, Helen moved in with her extended family, parents Charles and Lucille Dixie and immediately became the beloved and fun loving cousin to Aglaia, George and Nick Dixie. In 1937, Helen went to work for the Texas Pacific Railroad, where she was happily employed for over 40 years, until she retired, as an Assistant to the District Sales Manager. Helen was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church for 75 years and participated in the Daughters of Penelope and many other activities of the Greek Church. Helen was a lifelong Democrat and having been born before women had the right to vote, believed in voting early and often. Helen was always optimistic and the brightest light in any room. Her laugh was infectious as was her sunny disposition. She was an early adopter of animal print clothing, thus proving her trend setting fashion sense. She loved to accessorize and was rarely seen without a silk scarf. Helen loved a party and never missed one. Most recently, she shone at her 96th birthday celebration lovingly organized by her cousin, cohort and favorite companion, Charles Mauzy. When asked the secret of her long and joyous life, Helen cited her faith in God as well as the medicinal value of an occasion glass of red wine. Helen is proceeded in death by her parents Florence Condylis Jackson and Tom Jackson, beloved sister and best friend, Mary Condos, brother-in-law Tony Condos, cousins Chris and Katie Dixie and Donna Dixie, and the only true love of her life, her husband James Harper. Helen will be cherished and missed by her family, Aglaia Mauzy, George Dixie, Nick Dixie, Kathrine Wernick, Paul Condylis, and younger adoring cousins Catherine Mauzy, Charles Mauzy, James Mauzy, Nicole Aviles, Christa Dixie, Alex Paris and five great great cousins. The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff of Monticello West, and Helen’s friend and trusted hairdresser for over 40 years, Martha Garcia. Helen will be missed. A Trisagion will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 7pm on Wed. Oct. 7. Funeral service will take place on Thur. Oct. 8, at 10am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with a committal service to follow at Grove Hill Cemetery.
