Gloria Solis was born on April 11, 1936, in Elm Mott, Texas, to Angelita Ramos and Vicente Martinez. She attended James Madison High School, formerly Forest Avenue High School, a public school in Dallas, Texas.
She met the love of her life, Andrew Solis, and were married in 1953. They spent 57 adventurous years raising their four children in Oak Cliff, TX, until 2005. At that time, the couple retired to Plano, TX, where Andrew passed away in 2010. During their time together, the couple took great pleasure with their travel excursions to the beaches of Mexico or California, the Bahamas, Washington, Baltimore, New York to name a few and to visit their children in Colorado and Florida.
She spent most of her professional career working @ Neiman Marcus as a data entry clerk in Downtown Dallas from 1970-1999.
Gloria was a customary fixture in attendance at St. James & St. Elizabeth Catholic Churches while she lived in Oak Cliff and in the same manner at the Church of Our Lady of Angels in Allen, TX, during her residency in Plano. Gloria was always instrumental in hosting weekly Sunday breakfast at her house as she valued having her family close-knit. Whether organizing bingo night or playing cards, she always made time for loved ones, her top priority, and the warmth she created was felt.
Gloria is survived by her daughters, Rosa Ayala, Patricia Hernandez, & son, Andrew Solis, Jr. She has gone to heaven to be with her husband, Andrew, and deceased daughter, Alice Pogue. Her free time revolved around her pride and joy: her grandchildren – Andrea Ayala, Michael Ayala, Amy Ayala, Andrew Solis III, Raquel Solis & Samuel Solis. You could always count on her to be in the stands or attendance at all their events with a glowing smile on her face. In addition, she found delight in her great-grandchildren Cynthia Castro, Jacob Castro, Landry Ayala, Olivia Castro, Harper Ayala, Adrian Solis, and Arianna Solis. Gloria would tell you that she was blessed with loving brothers who exemplify the true definition of family – Vicente, Livrado, Domingo, and Timoteo Martinez along with three surviving stepsisters and two stepbrothers, Eleuteria Paramo, Helen Garcia, Sam Gonzalez, and Albert Paniagua.
The family invites you to her viewing and the opportunity to offer your words of comfort on Monday, November 13, for the visitation from 3–7 pm; Rosary 4-5 pm at Calvary Hill Chapel. In addition, a public mass with funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 14, from 10–11 am @ Calvary Hill North Chapel, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, TX.
If you would like to donate in lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made in Gloria Solis’ name to Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church (1914 Ridgeview Drive, Allen, TX 75013).
