Glenna Marie Wickline

The daughter of Joseph P. and Bernice Murphy, she was born June 11, 1931, in Dixon, Illinois. She grew up in Dixon and attended Northern Illinois State Teachers College (now Northern Illinois University), graduating in 1953.

She married Wade Wickline on August 31, 1952. They had seven children. Glenna and Wade and their three daughters moved from Illinois to Candor, New York, in February 1957, after Wade accepted a job at IBM Corp.’s Owego, New York, plant. Their four sons were all born in New York.

In 1967, she began teaching reading at Camp MacCormick, a state Division for Youth residential facility for teenage boys. She worked there for 10 years, then taught elementary school for many years at St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Owego, New York. After she retired from teaching, she devoted her time to many charitable organizations, including Tioga Opportunities and Meals on Wheels. She was also a Mercy Associate, a lay organization affiliated with the Sisters of Mercy in Rochester, N.Y. She was a longtime member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Catatonk, N.Y., where she served as organist for many years. During her “retirement” years, she worked part time at the Candor Free Library. In 2015, after Wade suffered a mild stroke, Glenna and Wade moved to The Colony, Texas, to live closer to family. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in The Colony and she continued to volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters and four sons: Jeanne (Gary) LaBella of Arlington, VA; Dr. Deborah (Keith) McRoberts of Biscoe, NC; Joe (Denise) Wickline of The Colony, TX; Thomas (Connie) Wickline of Laceys Spring, AL; Richard Wickline of Star, NC; and Robert (Galyna) Wickline of Uvalde, TX. She was predeceased in 2018 by her sister Gladys Hannan and her daughter Mary Wickline. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Jamie McRoberts, Lindsey, Carsen and Jordan LaBella, Claire Nelsen, Corinne Aronhalt, Joseph Wickline, Olivia Wickline, Scott Wickline, Tracy Stewart, Veronica Barker, Andrei Samsonov and Tatiana Samsonova; and 12 great-grandchildren: Caleb and Audrey Posey, Emma and Kyndel Wickline, Louise and Rigby Aronhalt, Hylan and Leena Willner, Rosina Barker, Timur Samsonov, Zlata Samsonova and Ksenia Samsonova.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Glenna will be celebrated on January 12, 2023, at 11 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in The Colony, TX.
