He was born to Durward Jackson and Katherine (Gray) Cline on November 5th, 1931, in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in Dallas and met the love of his life, Joan Brimberry Cline, in high school at Cliff Temple Baptist Church. They both attended the University of Texas at Austin and were lifelong, avid Longhorn fans. His lifelong love of sports led to many conversations with other sports enthusiasts regarding his favorite teams, including the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys, as well as the PGA Tour.
His greatest joy in life came from serving others as a husband, Dad, Papa, and friend. He was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Plano for over 50 years serving as a deacon and in various ministries, including Cornerstone youth, Sunshine Singers, and 55+ mission trips. He and Joan also enjoyed many vacations with family and friends to Colorado for fishing and fun. Jerry’s adult life revolved around family, music, and church. Jerry said that throughout his and Joan’s 71 years of marriage, “God has blessed us by helping us forget the bad things and remember the good. Keys to a long marriage…God, music, and communication!”
For 25 years, Jerry worked in the family business his father had started, Cline Music Co. They serviced school music programs far and wide across the metroplex and other parts of Texas. Jerry then moved his family to Plano where he opened B & C Music Co. which he ran successfully for an additional 15 years. He also played many dance jobs with his band, Happy Jazz Society. He formed lifelong friendships with band directors and musicians.
Jerry was a joker. His love of life and people was evident! I am sure his booming laugh will be heard throughout the “halls of heaven”!
He is survived by two daughters, Gloria and husband Howard McKinney, Julia, and husband Bob Jordan; four grandchildren, Jake Jordan, Ben (Leah) Jordan, Kaylee Jordan, and Hannah (Creighton) Apple; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Leander Cline, his brother, Durward Jackson Cline, Jr. and recently his lifelong sweetheart Joan Brimberry Cline. Special thanks to the medical team and staff at Three Oaks Hospice as well as the staff of Teresa's House Senior Living.
A graveside service for Gerald will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 6300 South R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.laurellanddallas.com for the Cline family.
In honor of his lifelong dedication to sharing his love of God and the gospel message of Jesus Christ, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to PowerPoint Ministries at jackgraham.org.
