With family by her side, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and evangelist, Gail Tumey Mayo Cogburn, passed from this earth to her final home in heaven on November 12, 2022,
She was born Gail Norrell Tumey, on August 30, 1944, in Alice, Texas to the late Alfred and Dorothy Tumey. She was one of five children and is a sister to Pat Robbins, Wayne Tumey and Dennis Tumey, and the late Penny Jobson. Growing up, these five had many adventures together and some funny stories to tell, but most importantly, they shared love and dedication to each other and their families.
Gail was blessed with three children, her daughter Dina Michelle Hyatt, and two sons, John Michael Joseph Cogburn, and Mark Howard Mayo. Gail was happiest when she was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In her last years, she resided in Boerne, Texas, but spent many hours on the road sharing her testimony, the Lord’s message, and her music as a professional evangelist. Her words and music have blessed many over the last forty years. Once Gail rededicated her life to Jesus, she had a fervent desire to share the story of Christ’s redemption with the world. Through the legacy of her music and songwriting, her story of redemption will live on.
With her big Texas hair, always made-up face, and a country twang, she could light up a room with her infectious smile. She not only enjoyed making people laugh, but also wanted to ensure those around her felt loved and cared for in her presence. Sister Gail will be missed, but those who loved her are comforted by the knowledge that she is celebrating her eternal life in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Gail is survived by her daughter Dina and Donnie, her son Bubba, her son Mark and daughter-in-law, Belinda, her grandchildren Jaclynn and husband, Jami, Candace, and her husband, James, Michelle and her husband, Cody, Haley and her husband, Jody, Kendel, Mackenzie and her husband Grant, Joslynn, Marky, Jordin, Morgan, Chris, and wife Ashley, and Matrix, great-grandchildren, Zachary, and his wife, Alli, Chance, Cami, and her husband, Keegan, Mason, Libby, Colter, James, Rebecka, Nadalee, Savannah, Grayson, Knox, Merritt, Maddyn, Zizou, Adaleyn, Harper, Kinslee, Everly, Hayden, McKynLee, Kai and Koa, her siblings Pat, Wayne, and his wife Gretchen, Dennis, more nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and even great-great nieces and nephews to count, along with friends like family and sisters and brothers in Christ.
